Our school
Our school is located between the Heivelden and Heuveleind neighborhoods. In two buildings opposite each other. We teach children in year 8 at the location Paardenhei. All other children receive lessons at location Vlinderhei.
Our vision on education
All children have the right to the best education, within which they can optimally develop their development potential. That is why we teach children knowledge, skills and behavior that increases their independence and strengthens their self-esteem. We offer them, in a supportive and safe learning environment, tools to thrive in a rapidly changing world. In our vision we describe what we mean by good education and how we help children lay a solid foundation for their future
In order to be able and dare to develop into a resilient person, it is important that you feel safe and secure. We believe that this works best in an atmosphere of openness, clarity and tranquility. In an inspiring environment, where we treat each other respectfully and where there is genuine attention for others. In an environment where cooperation and empathy are central, children feel supported to grow together and care for the well-being of themselves and those around them. As a resilient person, it is important that you feel safe and secure. We believe that this works best in an atmosphere of openness, clarity & rest. In an inspiring environment, where respectfully children play and learn with each other and where there is sincere attention for the other. In an environment where cooperation and empathy are central, children feel supported to grow together and to ensure the well-being of themselves and their environment.
At our school we ensure that all children feel seen, heard and valued and are approached in a positive, open and honest way. That is why we teach children to develop a positive, respectful, empathetic and reflective attitude, so that they can develop into motivated, happy and responsible global citizens who are lifelong learners.
We encourage children to discover their interests, be curious, explore and find and follow their own path of learning and do so by providing a meaningful, challenging and stimulating learning environment. An environment in which children are active, motivated and involved and are encouraged to develop their unique talents. This allows children to confidently take on challenges in an ever-changing world.
We encourage children to be themselves and help them to develop autonomy and independence, so that they can reflect and be critical of their own learning process and manage it. This helps them grow and understand themselves and the environment better.
We help children develop future-oriented skills by working together on projects that challenge children to think creatively and find solutions to complex issues in a flexible way. We believe that creative thinking is the basis for personal growth.
We encourage children not only to acquire knowledge, but also to experiment, understand how and why you learn, embrace mistakes as learning moments and develop flexibility.
Based on a meaningful and goal-oriented approach (for us the key to success), we contribute to the development of committed, sincere, resilient and responsible global citizens, who look with pride at their personal growth and development.
The team
Every day we are ready for the children to give them a great day at school, where they can work and play. Where they had great conversations and celebrated successes together. And when they return home they will say: “I learned so much today 😉”

Our schoolplan
We ensure that all children can optimally develop their development potential. We teach children knowledge, skills and behavior that increases children's independence and strengthens their self-esteem. We describe how we do this in our school plan. You can also read what our development ambitions are for the coming years.
At Kindcentrum Antonius we want all children to feel safe. After all, you have to feel safe in order to develop yourself and be happy.
We do everything we can to make it (socially) safe for every child at school, but we also know that this is not always possible. Bad things can sometimes happen, especially out of sight of parents and/or teachers, and every time it does happen is one time too many!
That is why we use the M5 approach!
The M5 approach makes it (partly) possible to make our school safe for all children. As adults we can ensure social safety and children can help with that. The M5 approach includes four steps:
- Reporting inappropriate behavior. Only when we know what is happening can we take action;
- Discuss trends of cases regarding bullying with the children in the group;
- If necessary, discuss a report with the child about whom the report was made. We then talk briefly about how the behavior needs to stop and about what it takes to stop it. We keep the conversation small, because the child knows what it is about and now has to do something else. We give the child the opportunity to show different behavior on his own and then continue to monitor this closely;
- If it turns out that a child is unable to stop on his or her own, we offer helpful measures.
Parents are always informed (by members of the M5 steering group) after we have had an individual conversation with their child about this subject.
Report bullying
Children from year 4 and up and all parents at our school have the option to report inappropriate behavior by fellow students. You can think of bullying cases in the following examples:
- you are not allowed to participate
- you are being yelled at
- you are hit or kicked
- you don't like a certain place
- they make fun of you
- they break or lose your belongings
You can report a bullying case here
In addition, structurally Rots & Water lessons are held in all of our classes.
We also have an anti-bullying coordinator (Helen van Zeeland) at school who is also a member of the M5 steering group and we use a bullying protocol.
School contacts
If, despite the use of the M5 approach, the Rots & Water lessons and the bullying protocol, a child or parent encounters an unpleasant situation, he/she can discuss it in confidence with one of our school contacts. They will listen to the situation of a child or parent and refer to an agency/person that offers help. Nienke van Slageren and Desirée Renders are our school contacts.
Our courses
The classes: “Language, English, Spelling, Technical reading (for group 3) and math lessons” are offered at our school in the form of 'courses'. For these subjects, the children first receive a short activating instruction, then they practice the instruction under supervision and finally they work independently (or in groups/pairs) to practice what has just been learned. Finally, the class reflects on what has been learned and how it went. Our courses cover the progression test and are based on the core objectives and TULE objectives. They contain the reference levels for language and arithmetic and are in line with the child's educational needs. In addition, the courses are deepened and broadened where necessary, so that the child can undergo uninterrupted development and is well prepared for further education.
Our thematic working
The classes: “Geography, history, biology, citizenship, vocabulary, visual arts, drama and digital literacy are offered thematically. Each theme goes through different phases, where we always look carefully at what the child indicates and/or needs.
- Phase red: children are introduced to the theme and the goals within this theme
- Phase orange: children learn about the theme and children's prior knowledge is activated
- Phase yellow: children come up with a research question that fits the theme
- Green phase: children look for answers to the research question
- Phase blue: children process the information obtained into a piece of work/end product
- Purple phase: children present the project/final product to the group, parents or others
- White phase: the theme is evaluated
Within thematic working, children learn future-oriented skills such as: “Planning, communicating, collaborating, creating, reflecting, presenting, collaborating, accounting, entrepreneurship and ICT skills.
- Science and technology lessons provided by Mad Science
- The visual arts lessons provided by an artist
- De gymlessen verzorgd door een vakleerkracht
- The classes of Rots & Water provided by Rots & Water specialists
- The after-school care activities provided by external providers such as Partou
- In the Adventurers we meet the educational needs of cognitively very talented children.
School support profile
In our school support profile (SSP) we provide a transparent picture of our school, our expertise, our (extra) facilities and the options we can offer in the context of appropriate education for all children. We also indicate where our limits lie in guiding and supporting children with specific (extra/supplementary) educational needs. With our SSP we want to give all parties a clear picture of the (im)possibilities of our school, so that the right choices are made, with the best interests of the child always being our starting point.
Here you will find our school support profile.

At Partou's after-school care (also known as Buitenschoolse Opvang BSO), your child will have fun and relax with friends. Play outside, play an exciting game, take a dance workshop or read quietly. Your child chooses what he or she likes. Via the app you receive photos and messages about what your child experiences at after-school care.
Children also have a program that they can plan themselves. For example, a child enjoys playing large board games outside, or a football tournament, but also making clothes for the doll or cooking in the kitchen. There is something fun to do every day for every child. Children are allowed to actively think about the program during the school holidays. And of course there is also room for a moment of rest.
There are also fun activities at the locations during school weeks. Such as exercise, going outside and workshops occur regularly.
Relaxing with friends after a busy school day, doing activities, having fun, that's what children want.
Partou also provides childcare during school holidays and on study days. There is always something extra to experience. For example, a day in the forest with the forester or we will play in one of the many playgrounds in the area. Every year we participate in the sports/scouting days of the Wilhelmina Boys. We organize great workshops, such as sand painting, fencing and yoga!
We work together with Partou at the following locations
Location Vlinderhei, Best
Location Wildheuvel, Best
Here you can grow up
Kindcentrum Antonius has been working with core partner Partou for several years in a so-called Kindcentrum. In practice you will see this reflected, among other things, in coordinating the themes together. In addition, Partou's children are already introduced to the nursery groups prior to starting primary school. This facilitates the transition to primary school when a child turns 4 years old.
We are constantly working on further deepening the content of this collaboration. Structural consultation moments have been scheduled, among other things. In the 2016-2017 school year, the toddler care center moved into the main building of the school. That has deepened and made collaboration easier.
The focus is on forming a team together and finding and strengthening each other even better in terms of educational content and pedagogical areas. For this we use our annual joint study evenings and attendance at the school Spring Festival at Partou. In addition, we value communicating cooperation to our parents. In recent years, the substantive side of the partnership has been further explored, in relation to our renewed vision.
Then the question arises: How do we work better together for the continuous development of our children? Ultimately, there will be a collaboration house in which roles, tasks and responsibilities are clear for everyone. There is a shared vision, joint team activities and there are joint meeting times. We therefore work with a form of joint budget and leadership is clearly organised.
School hours
&
Lunch at school
Our school has a continuous schedule in a 5 equal days model.
This means that all children go to school from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. The doors open at 8:20 am and the children go to their groups, the lessons starts at 8:30 am.
The children play outside for fifteen minutes in the morning, together with their teacher. Before or shortly after they go outside, they can eat a small snack. At lunchtime the children play outside with their teacher, where a assistant parent/worker also assists.
All children stay at school at lunchtime and in principle have lunch with their own teacher.
We think it is important that a healthy snack and/or lunch is consumed. We assume that parents will help us by encouraging healthy behavior and providing a healthy lunch and snack to their child(ren).
